MEF Parent Education Series Presents
“The Gift of Failure”
Thank you to the nearly 200 parents & staff who joined us for Part II of the MEF’s Parent Education Series, “The Gift of Failure with Jessica Lahey” last Tuesday. Whether you attended the evening presentation or the “Coffee with the Author” earlier in the day, we hope you enjoyed Jessica’s informative and thought provoking message about how over-parenting robs children of the opportunity to learn from their mistakes, solve their own problems and develop the skills they need to independently navigate adulthood.
We thank Jessica as well as the guest panelists and community partners listed below for helping to make the program so successful. Bringing parents, educators and child development experts together is critical to ensuring that, as a community, we can raise the healthiest, most resilient children possible.
Guest panelists: Dr. Walter Rosenfeld, Chair of Pediatrics, Goryeb Children’s Hospital, Morristown Medical Center, Joseph Uglialoro, Principal, Frelinghuysen Middle School, Morris School District, and Kristen Rudiger, School Psychologist, Morris School District.
Community Partners: Rotary Club of Morristown, Morris Township/Morristown Joint Municipal Alliance, Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center.

Ms. Lahey outlines a plan for how parents and teachers can encourage autonomy, while still offering support, to help children grow into independent, resilient and confident adults. “We have taught our kids to fear failure, and in doing so, we have blocked the surest and clearest path to their success.” ~Jessica Lahey
