Cultural Arts Annual Funding – $32,000 total:
Alexander Hamilton students enjoyed cultural experiences from around the world, including Afro Puertorican Folkloric Music, Bomba and Plena and Lion Dance Plus, an introduction to Chinese culture.
Alfred Vail second graders participated in a multi-cultural dance residency where they studied the dance, music, history and culture of five international countries. The residency resulted in a performance for the school and parents.
Hillcrest brought the entire school to view, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? The Musical! at Mayo Performing Arts Center to reinforce the their school-wide theme of "Hounds Helping Hounds" all year.
Lafayette Learning Center students enjoyed a week of daily presentations or experiences to engage students. Past vendors have included a reptile encounter, a magician, a bubble presentation, Tai Kwon Do, and dance instruction.
Normandy Park students participated in a dance residency with Mayo Performing Arts Center to learn about Broadway history and musicals. Each class practiced an act/song from a popular musical and performed the piece for their family to see.
Sussex Avenue and Thomas Jefferson fifth-graders participated in a Writers In the Schools Program with local poet and author, Mr. BJ Ward. During multiple sessions, Mr. Ward worked with students to explore their inner poet to create their own works of poetry based on their individual traits.
Woodland School students participated in Musiquita, a playful exploration of music in Spanish and English as well as Junk Jams.
Frelinghuysen Middle School sixth-grade students took a field trip to the Mayo Performing Arts Center to see the traveling theatrical production of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad.
Morristown High School students grades 9-12 had the opportunity to view Bob Marley: One Love at AMC Headquarters in Morristown through the African American Month Celebration Committee to learn about the reggae icon and how he overcame adversity, and the journey behind his revolutionary music.
