Description: The Kerry and Kyle Wimley Scholarship was established in December 2024. The Wimley family values higher education, stemming from their parents prioritizing paying for college for each of their children and the next generation doing the same for their children. Two generations of such sacrifice made an impact that the Wimley family would like to pay forward.
Kerry was an STA Morris United travel soccer player on a team that began as second graders and stayed together through the end of high school. She played on the MHS team, serving as a captain in her senior year. Kerry also played JV lacrosse and was on the varsity golf team. Kyle, too, played Morris United travel soccer while juggling Morristown Colonial lacrosse and Morristown American Little League. He played lacrosse at MHS, also serving as a captain. Sports provided both with lifelong friends and taught them about commitment and aspects of teamwork that helped make them who they are today.
This scholarship rewards a Morristown High School senior who is a hard worker. The recipient will have strong academic achievement and a long-standing commitment to their sport. It will be awarded to a Morristown High School senior planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college/university or a trade school/apprenticeship program who has not signed to play a sport in college. It is a one-time $10,000 award.
Criteria: The Kerry and Kyle Wimley Scholarship will be open to all Morristown High School seniors who have committed four years to their sport but have not signed to play in college. To be considered for this scholarship, the Morristown High School senior must:
o Submit a complete MEF Common Scholarship Application online
o Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
It is preferred that applicants have financial need. Preference will also be given to soccer or lacrosse players.
Application Requirements:
❏ MEF Common Scholarship Application with current transcript
❏ Complete the Financial Information Application Supplement
❏ Complete a supplemental essay (up to 300 words) answering “Why I deserve this scholarship.”
❏ Provide two letters of recommendation – one from their MHS guidance counselor and one from a Morristown High School or club coach.
